She was originally a British liner. After the Spanish American War she
was retained by the Army and renamed U.S.A.T SHERMAN. In 1922 she was
by the Los Angeles
Company, and rebuilt as a cabin liner for the Los Angeles -Hawaii
The company renamed her the CALAWAII. She steamed sucessfully as the
mate of CITY OF LOS ANGELES (the previously intended running mate, CITY
OF HONOLULU, sank on it's first voyage!) MOBILE was withdrawn
broken up in Japan 1933
