The Roster of the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry

Cpl. Charles Allen Slaton of Co. H 3rd Kentucky
Cpl. Charles Allen Slaton of Company H of the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. Slaton married Margaret Priscilla Cruz on December 8, 1899, almost exactly one year after the Spanish American War ended. Slaton held many different jobs during his life. He was a cemetery caretaker, a police officer, a trolley conductor, and grew and sold tomatoes and other vegetables for sale. He and his family (three daughters and one son in addition to his wife) moved often as Slaton changed jobs, living in Henderson, Kentucky; Booneville, Evansville and Newburgh, and Stevenson Station, Indiana; and briefly in Ironton, Missouri. Eventually the family settled in St. Wendel, Indiana.
