General:

The following roster, provided by the Shipyard Museum at the Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Navy yard provides information on the Spanish prisoners of war who died while being held in U.S. custody at Portsmouth. During the war, over 1,500 Spanish prisoners were held at the Navy Yard. The majority of these men were captured during the Battle of Santiago.This roster provides the following information - name, date of death, age, burial plot number, and cause of death.

The bodies of these men were returned to Spain in 1916.
