Patrick McSherry is responsible for many of the website's articles (as noted throughout) and for collaboration with many of the contributors. He is now serving as overall editor, a position he has held since 1998. Pat has many historical articles in print, published both nationally and internationally.
McSherry has written articles for publications such as Sea Classics, Naval History, History Magazine, Leatherneck, Family Chronicle, The Artilleryman, Journal of the Lancaster County Historical Society, U.S. Navy Cruiser Sailors Association Magazine, Guantanamo Bay Gazette, Occasional Publications of the Epigraphic Society, Veterans News, and Lancaster Heritage. In addition, McSherry has worked with Russian Spanish Navy expert Nick Mitiuckov to co-author several articles on the U.S. Dynamite Cruiser VESUVIUS, which has appeared the Proceeding of the Izhevsk Technical College, and as a separate booklet on the vessel published in Russia. The pair have also collaborated on articles on dynamite guns, cruisers and the capture of Guam in Tehnika i vooruzhenie (Technical and Combat Equipment) and in the Polish publication Okrety Wojenne (Warships).
McSherry has served as technical advisor for a variety of video documentary productions such as a work on the wreck of the USS NEW YORK in Subic Bay. He has appeared in the Lou Reda Productions for the History Channel of "Spanish American War - Birth of a Superpower," and "Battle History of the U.S. Navy." He has also served as an advisor on the PBS Production "Search for the USS MAINE" and also appeared in a Discovery Channel Production on the loss of the MAINE. Most recently he served as an historical advisor and appeared in an upcoming NFL Films documentary on the Spanish American War scheduled to air in the Spring of 2007 on the History Channel.
McSherry served as a volunteer aboard the Cruiser OLYMPIA as a member of the Living History Crew of the OLYMPIA from 1996 to 2005. During this period, he served as president of the Crew's Ship Council for five years, and was a member of the Ship's Council for the remainder of the period. He had the distinct honor of having his father and two of his sons join him as part of the crew. Pat's knowledge of the Spanish American War has given him the opportunity to serve as Category Editor for the Open Directory Project's Spanish American War and Spanish American War Living History categories. McSherry is also a member of the U.S. Naval Institute, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans and the Lancaster Muzzleloaders. In November, 2006, McSherry had the unique opportunity to travel to the Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba to study Spanish American War sites that exist on the base grounds.
